Guide
Sweaty scalp
How often to wash a sweaty scalp depends on your hair and scalp. If your hair is fine or naturally straight, or your scalp is oily, we’d wash often, daily if you need to. If your hair is coarse or naturally curly or coily, we’d wash when needed.
Anyone whose scalp sweats can use the advice here. Our men’s haircut page has tips for the sun and the heat after a cut.

Which hair do you have?
Fine hair means each hair is thin, and coarse hair means each hair is thick. Naturally straight, curly or coily is the shape your hair grows in, before any straightening or styling. An oily scalp feels greasy.
If you have dandruff
Dandruff has multiple causes, including some medical conditions, hair care habits and oily skin. Mild dandruff can usually be treated at home by washing your hair regularly.
When is it hottest in Chiang Mai?
April is the hottest month, with daytime highs of about 37 °C on average. Hats and the sun are on our scalp sun protection page.
Which advice applies to you?
If your scalp sweats mostly on the hottest days, around April here, those are the days to wash it. If dandruff stays after regular washing and a dandruff shampoo, or gets severe, we recommend seeing a doctor.
