Straightening coloured hair

Hair straightening by rebonding does not go together with hair that has been lightened, by bleach, highlights or a light shade of colour, because the combination can break the hair. The same goes for a relaxer, another kind of chemical straightener. For other coloured hair, a strand test, which puts the product on a small section of hair first, shows whether it can take a straightener.

Lightened hair

Hair counts as lightened when it has been bleached, highlighted or dyed to a light shade. Our guides to hair rebonding and to what lightening does to hair explain each treatment on its own.

What is a strand test?

A strand test puts the product on a small section of hair first. It shows whether your hair can take the product. If that hair breaks, another product has to be tried, or the hair is too weak to be straightened.

Which case you are in
